Inaugural Connacht Charity Golf Outing in aid of seriously injured rugby players

The inaugural IRFU Charitable Trust Connacht Charity Golf Outing, kindly sponsored by Pinergy, will take place in the stunning Galway Bay Golf Resort, on Monday 29th July 2024 – coinciding with the start of the Galway Races.

We are delighted to further announce that Connacht and Ireland Rugby legend Eric Elwood will be our special guest on the day.

Special thanks to the team at Galway Bay Golf Resort for their generosity in supporting this Charity Golf Outing; as well as the Connacht Hospitality Group, which Galway Bay Golf Resort are part of.  The purpose of the Outing is to raise awareness for the IRFU Charitable Trust in Connacht and in particular to raise awareness about the 36 seriously injured rugby players from the four provinces whom the Trust supports.  In the case of Tommie Kyne, Corrib RFC, seriously injured in 2005, the Trust helped Tommie with alterations on his special vehicle – his digger!  As someone who loves the land, this meant the world to Tommie.

Thank you to Connacht Rugby for their support of this charity event; as well as the many Rugby Clubs, Schools, Individuals and Businesses who support the Charitable Trust from Connacht.  The importance of the Rugby Community in ensuring the continuity of care for all our seriously injured players cannot be overstated.  Funds raised from our events, including the Connacht Golf Outing, help with every day needs such as wheelchairs, medical treatment and physical therapy, as well as transportation, home renovations and recent ground breaking spinal injury repair research.   Special thanks again to our long standing Corporate FRIEND and sponsor Pinergy who are not only sponsoring the Connacht Golf Outing but the Leinster and Munster Golf Outings as well.   We would also like to thank Aerogen for being our very first “Longest Drive” partner for this event – Aerogen will have exclusivity on the two Longest Drive Tee Boxes.  These charity events are always a great occasion for our guests, including corporate supporters and sponsors, and the commitment and compassion from all involved is greatly appreciated by our seriously injured rugby players and their families.  Please click here or watch the video on this page from the Connacht Golf Outing Launch event – filmed by our Corporate FRIEND and Video Partner – Get Broadcasting.

We are also delighted to announce that Galway Bay FM have kindly come on board as our media partner for the Connacht Charity Golf Outing and will be raising awareness for the event across their multi-platform offering including radio ads (which will feature our very special guest to be announced), live broadcasts including Sports Bulletins, social media and Roadshow team.  In addition, the Trust’s National Media Partner,  DMG Media have come on board via Business Plus to support the event – thank you to our long term supporter DMG Media and the team.

We are now taking teams (four-ball) with a team of four costing €800.  We are limited to 24 teams, hence please book early to ensure you secure a place.  To book your team, please contact Linda by email: linda.black@irfu.ie.

The format is a Shotgun Scramble starting at 12midday with breakfast baps and tea/coffee served from 11am.  There will be prizes for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed teams, as well as for the longest drives (ladies and men); and nearest the Pinergy (front nine and back nine).  Tee sponsorship is also available for anyone who would like to get their brand/company name out there: one tee sign will cost €100 or three tee signs for €200.  All golfers will receive a goody bag and please ensure you sign up for the raffle to win some great prizes – including a €500 Voucher from Aldi (thank you Aldi!)  All proceeds go towards supporting our seriously injured rugby players, like Tommie Kyne and his family.  Following your round, you and your guests will be treated to a gourmet sit-down dinner in the Galway Bay Golf Club; followed by a Q&A with special guests, including Eric Elwood, with more to be announced.  We will also have a Silent Auction with unique rugby prizes as well as an exclusive prize kindly sponsored by the Galway Bay Golf Resort and Connacht Hospitality Group; as well as Connacht Rugby.

Thank you to those who have already committed to the event including our Connacht Trust Team, initially made up of brother’s Dermot and Gordon Fahy, Maeve Glynn (niece of seriously injured player Brendan Glynn) as well as Yvonne, Linda, Brid, Marc and Michael from the Trust, with more to join!
