Inaugural Munster Golf Outing in aid of seriously injured rugby players
We are delighted to announce the inaugural IRFU Charitable Trust Munster Golf Outing will take place at Fota Island Golf Club, on the Championship Course, on Friday 23rd June 2023.
We are also delighted to announce that our Golf Partner – Pinergy, is very kindly sponsoring the Munster Golf Outing as well as the Leinster Golf Outing. A very special note of thanks to all the Team at Pinergy for their ongoing support of the Charitable Trust and all our seriously injured rugby players and their families.
More great news – our host Daire O’Brien will be joined by Joy Neville and Billy Holland for a Q&A after our golfers have finished their round. And don’t be surprised if a few more Munster Rugby legends turn up! Speaking of legends, Peter O’Mahony has very generously signed and donated his Ireland rugby jersey from the France match on 11th February 2023 (image shown below) on his way to another Guinness Six Nations medal and Grand Slam victory for the Ireland team. We will be auctioning this, as well as a few other unique items, after the Q&A hence if you would like to get your hands on these exclusive items – sign your team up now for a four ball!
A team of four cost €800 and we are limited to 24 teams. 18 teams have already booked hence please book now to ensure you secure your place and confirm your tee off time. Tee times start from 13:00. There will be prizes for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed teams, as well as for the longest drive and nearest the Pinergy. All golfers will receive a goody bag and please ensure you sign up for the raffle to win some great prizes – with all proceeds going towards supporting our seriously injured rugby players.
Thank you to the Charitable Trust’s Munster Team of volunteers: Pat Collins, Michael Keane, Bertie Smith, Colette Vogel and in particular, Ed Kenny who has been driving this event. This will be the first time the Charitable Trust will have a Golf event in Munster – with the purpose of raising awareness for the Trust and in particular to raise awareness around the 35 seriously injured amateur rugby players whom the Trust supports. Six of the 35 seriously injured players are from Munster including:
- Brendan Glynn from Mallow RFC, injured back in 1994 while he was engaged to be married to his now wife Deirdre. Please take the time to view the below video and listen to Brendan’s inspiring story – his wife Deirdre and their children Maeve and Grace, the rugby community and his love and family’s love for the game.
- Danny Noonan from Galbally RFC who was injured in 1999. But that has not stopped him living his life! Just have a look at Danny’s skydive video below (Danny starts at 1minute).
- Mick O’Connell from Dolphin RFC who was seriously injured 19 years ago but remains a fan of the game today and, as you will hear in his video below, praises the kindness of the rugby community.
To echo Mick’s words, without the ongoing support and generosity of the rugby community, including our sponsor Pinergy, the Charitable Trust would not be able to help support Brendan, Danny, Mick and all seriously injured rugby players and their families. Funds raised from our events, including the Munster Golf Outing, help with everyday needs such as wheelchairs, medical treatment and physical therapy, as well as transportation, home renovations and recent ground breaking spinal injury repair research.
